Cycling is good for your health!

As Part of a Healthy Lifestyle

Numerous studies have shown that cycling is a great way to boost your physical and mental health. Regular physical activity, such as cycling, has been shown to help protect you from serious diseases like obesity, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and arthritis. Additionally, participating in club rides with friends can create a fantastic social environment, which is recognized for its benefits to mental health. Cycling regularly is an effective way to reduce the risk of serious health problems associated with a sedentary lifestyle.


Cycling is a low-impact exercise enjoyed by people of all ages, from young children to older adults. It is not only fun and affordable but also good for the environment!


Cycling is:

- Low impact – a good pedalling action means less strain on your joints compared to activities like running.

- A decent workout – pedalling utilizes the major muscle groups to move you around.

- Easy – riding a bike is one of the most efficient ways to use human power for transportation.

- Good for strength and stamina – cycling increases stamina, strength, and aerobic fitness.

- A great way to begin exercising – start at low intensity, especially if you're recovering from injury or illness, and gradually work up to a more demanding workout when you're ready.

- A fun way to get fit – there's a sense of adventure in riding outdoors and enjoying the countryside. Our club rides often explore the roads less travelled, offering views you might not otherwise experience. When you enjoy your cycling, you're more likely to continue exercising regularly.

- A great way to get around – cycling can replace sedentary time spent driving or using public transport with healthy exercise. Replacing short car journeys with a bike ride is also beneficial for the planet!


If you're considering taking up cycling, as with any form of exercise, begin slowly and build gradually. We recommend checking with your doctor beforehand, especially if you plan to participate in cycling events.
